NOTABLE NUMBERS

51%: percentage of registered runners in the 2018 Carmel Marathon that live outside of Indiana, marking the first time out-of-state runners outnumber in-state runners in the marathon. Click here to register for the 9th Annual Carmel Marathon March 30.

33: number of consecutive years the Carmel girls’ swim team has won the state title. Netting 413 points, the team was so dominant that the runner-up (167.5 points) and third-place (165 points) totals, when combined, still didn’t beat Carmel’s score. #math

7: years in a row Indianapolis International Airport has ranked #1 as the Best Airport in North America as part of Airport Council International’s 2018 Airport Service Quality Awards. This is the eighth time overall that IND has taken the top spot among airports serving between five and 15 million passenger per year.

70%: percentage of kids who quit sports by age 13. The reason given: because it’s not fun anymore. Heartbraking as that sounds, Julianna W. Miner of The Washington Post speculates that, “It’s a consequence of a number of cultural, economic and systemic issues that result in our kids turning away from organized sports at a time when they could benefit from them the most.”
